Shikara, Purple Rose, Almasi and Sebuleni Apartments all have swimming pools.
Yes, Nyali sits right on the coast. The beachfront is lined with hotels, and a coral reef offshore keeps the water inside it fairly calm. That stretch of sea is part of the Mombasa Marine Reserve, run by the Kenya Wildlife Service.
Around 7 km. The exact figure depends on where in Nyali you start, but most of it is 6 to 8 km from the town centre, across the New Nyali Bridge. With light traffic the drive takes about 15 minutes.
About 12 km heading north on the Mombasa–Malindi road, through Bamburi and Shanzu. A Bolt motorbike from Nyali Centre to Mtwapa takes around half an hour. By car, plan on 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.
Yes. The water is warm all year, and much of the coast sits behind a reef, so you get sheltered lagoons rather than big surf. Nyali and Bamburi are good examples.
The tide makes the biggest difference. At low tide the sea pulls back and the reef can be exposed, leaving water too shallow to swim in properly. Mid to high tide is best, so check a tide table before you head out.
It depends on the trip you want.
Nyali makes sense if you want to be near town. Mombasa, the airport, malls and hospitals are all close, and the area has enough shops and restaurants that you rarely need to cross into the city.
Diani is about an hour south of Mombasa and feels quieter. The beach is longer, and the accommodation runs from high-end resorts to simple budget places.
