Shikara Apartments
Mornings at Shikara start slowly. Make a cup of tea, open the balcony doors and let the sea air in. You’re on 5th Avenue in New Nyali, just off Mahesh Doshi Road, in a quiet gated compound painted white and navy blue. Nyali City Mall is a short walk away and the beach is about ten minutes by car. Plan the day or skip the plan entirely.
There’s plenty of room for everyone. Each apartment has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, so nobody waits for the shower after a day at the beach. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, oven, microwave and kettle. Cook a proper dinner with fish from the market and eat it together at the dining table. When the Mombasa afternoon heats up, the air conditioning and ceiling fans keep the bedrooms cool enough for a good nap.
Afternoons tend to end up by the pool. You can swim laps while the kids splash in the children’s pool or run around the garden and play area. Later, put the beach towels in the washing machine and find something to watch on the flat-screen TV with the free Wi-Fi. Then take a cold drink out to the balcony and enjoy the evening breeze coming in off the coast.

Nyali City Mall is a short walk away. Stock up on groceries, grab a coffee, or catch a movie when the afternoon gets too hot. Nyali and Bamburi beaches are about ten minutes by car, which makes it easy to go for a quick swim before breakfast. If you play golf, Nyali Golf Club is just down the road.
With kids, spend a day at Wild Waters, where they can go down the slides and splash around in the pools until they’re worn out. Old Town and Fort Jesus are about 20 minutes away. Wander the narrow streets, stop for a cup of Swahili coffee, and head back to the pool before dinner.
